Bonnievale is a great place for outdoor activities.  We are blessed with the surrounded mountain ranges and the ever flowing Breede river. There are many activities in and around Bonnievale but you have to know how to find them. Please contact 023 616 3563 for help making your personal choice.

We invite you to come and make personal contact with the farm animals.  Sit on the banks of the dam with a picnic basket and enjoy the sight of ducks swimming in the farm dam, cows feeding in the lucerne fields and birds chirping in the trees.  Let the children feed the chickens and the ducks.  For the early birds, come and have a look at the dairy, try a glass of fresh milk and see how a cow get milked.

The Bonnie People Project offers a feeding scheme for children of the area and is in the process of establishing a crèche for children aged three to six who’s parent are away at work all day. Many of these children are not able to attend school because their families live hand–to–mouth. To be able to provide them with just one meal a day is a blessing.

This tour will take you up close and personal to the delights of fruit and wine farming. Come and meet the family and whilst they entertain you with interesting farm stories walk through apricot, peach and plum orchards.

Outdoor Arena breeds sterile grass carp which is used for aquatic weed control. Guided tours to the hatchery is a very interesting experience.

The Farm is located at the foothills of the Riversonderend mountains near the town of Bonnievale in Cape Province. The Boesmans River runs through the property of 155 ha of which about 8 ha has been developed over the years for Koi farming. By appointment please.

 

The course is maintained in top condition and the layout is level and very user-friendly. Golfers used to playing on very busy courses are particularly struck by the relaxed and unhurried atmosphere to be found here.

Hessequas offers you various camping sites and 4 x 4 trails along the Zonderend river. A new " Hartebeeshuis " camp build in the Bluegum woods. The Hartebees camp consists of 9 mud houses sleeping 3 - 5 each. Basic accommodation, but daringly different

This unique game was developed by ourselves. Played on a nine hole par 3 course, this is the no.1 game to improve your short game. Stretched out between our fish production ponds, this is truly a course for the adventurous.

Excursion to waterfall. Sightseeing and lecture over: Indigenous trees, nearly extinct Breede River Redfincarp, old leopard trap, rock formations, historic stonewall and black eagles nest. Swimming in water pools.

A large variety of fish species are kept in our well stocked ponds. These include largemouth bass, carp, barbel, blue kurper, blue gill and grass carp.

Daily Trips available subject to the weather. Celebrate a birthday, office party or small conference etc with THE RIVER GOOSE any time of day. The lodge with thatch roof and yellowwood beams is the ideal venue for weddings and conferences and other occasions. A licensed bar and catering facilities makes this lodge ideal for functions.

Bonnievale can boast with the "Littlest Museum" in South Africa.The Museum was the initiative of Oom Daantjie le Roux. The collection started many years ago on the farms Kapteinsdrift and Angora Stud where Oom Daantjie grew up and farmed. Since his childhood he was an ardent collector of interesting things. In The Cafe our visitors now have the priviledge of enjoying a cup of tea or coffee from an antique cup & saucer of their choice, while being taken back into history.

You could have a delicious slice of homemade Cheese-, Chocolate or Carrot cake as well as light lunches in this serene atmosphere. The Museum Cafe & Gallery is housed in the quaint little thatched bulding on Main Street in the heart of Bonnievale.

We have an extensive ala carte menu and also provide take away meals. On Sundays we have a set menu. Please book in advance. A huge deck at the restaurant overlooks the golf course and angling dams. It seats 40 people. The Arena restaurant seats 40 people indoors and 12 outdoors. A fire place in the middle adds to the warm and friendly atmosphere. Our cozy sports club, with two fire places, seats 22 people. We serve baskets, soups and snacks at the bar.

We have a large selection of wines from our region, all under one roof. You can shop around at leisure and taste the cellar of the week's excellent wines.

Here a wide variety of Parmalat products are available, including cheese produced locally. Other Parmalat products produced at their other plants are also on offer such as milk, a range of yoghurts including their exciting new drinking yoghurt, cottage cheese, cream and butter – including their newly launched flavoured butters. Antiques / reproduction antiques.

Christopher Forrest Rigg was the founder and first owner of Bonnievale. He saw the potential prospect of creating an irrigation scheme from the Breede River in Bonnievale, and therefor bought most of the valley. He then divided it into plots which he sold to farmers, who cultivated Lucerne and grapes.
Mr. and Mrs. Rigg had three children, but two died in infancy. Mary Myrtle was the youngest and the apple of her parents' eyes. She did voluntary work and when she died in 1911, her father built the church in her memory. The stones used in building the church came from Bonnievale; the doors were imported from Zanzibar (when bought, they were already two hundred years old!) and the tiles were imported from India. The church was completed in 1922. Bonnievale Municipality restored the church in 1977. The Tourism Bureau of Bonnievale is currently applying to have the church declared a National Monument Museum.
